Arrivals day in Budapest, where you will be met and transferred to the Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace for a one-night stay. Enjoy a welcome reception dinner in the elegant surrounds of this art nouveau landmark where you can meet your fellow travellers ahead of our journey to Transylvania.
We enjoy a morning drinks reception in the impressive Royal Waiting Room at Budapest Nyugati station before boarding the Golden Eagle Danube Express. Settle in to your cabin and later enjoy lunch as the train heads to Lajosmizse for a spectacular ‘Puszta’ horse show. Afterwards there is free time to explore Kecskemet, a fascinating city at the geographical centre of Hungary.
Back onboard, enjoy a pre-dinner drink in the Bar Lounge Car as the train continues across the Great Hungarian Plain and dine as we head towards Transylvania.
Today is a day for castles. This morning we arrive in Sinaia for a vist to the impressive Peles Castle, the Neo-Renaissance residence of King Carol I of Romania, inaugurated in 1883, with a museum of national heritage artefacts.
We return on board to our private train for lunch as we continue onto Brasov for a private tour of Bran Castle. Popularly known as Dracula’s Castle, this beautiful 14th century building is situated amongst stunning mountain scenery. This evening we enjoy a black tie dinner in Queen Maria's Music Room in the castle.
After leaving Brasov late morning we arrive in Sighisoara in the afternoon for a walking tour of the town’s main highlights.
A World Heritage site rumoured to be the birthplace of Dracula, it is one of the best-preserved fortified medieval towns in Europe. Burgher houses and ornate churches line its cobbled streets. Here we will enjoy a lunch and event at the Casa Vlad Dracul.
Tonight we enjoy a Fancy Dress Halloween party on board the Golden Eagle Danube Express with a cocktail reception and gala dinner.
This morning we visit the Transylvanian city of Sibiu. It is known for Germanic architecture in its Old Town, the legacy of 12th-century Saxon settlers. Around the city are the remains of medieval walls and towers, including the 13th-century Council Tower.
We return to the Golden Eagle Danube Express for lunch as we begin the final part of the journey as we return to the Hungarian capital of Budapest.
Tonight, we enjoy a Farewell Dinner on board as we arrive late evening into Budapest and stay overnight at the Budapest Railway Park and Museum.
This morning, after an overnight stay on the Danube Express, we wake at the Budapest Railway Park and Museum and enjoy our final breakfast on board.
