Guest astronomer announcement

It is our great pleasure to announce that Professor Don Kurtz will join our Arctic Explorer tour once again this December as our guest astronomer. During the trip Don will be delivering on board lectures on a selection of fascinating subjects, plus he will be leading our quests for the natural phenomenon that is the Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis).

Born in San Diego, California, to an American father and Canadian mother. He obtained his PhD in astronomy from the University of Texas at Austin in 1976, then spent 24 years in South Africa at the University of Cape Town, where he was Professor and Life Fellow. At present, Don has been Professor of Astrophysics at the University of Central Lancashire since 2001.

He is a Vice-President of the Royal Astronomical Society and observes with some of the largest telescopes in the world. Just one of his incredible achievements includes the discovery of a class of pulsating, magnetic stars that are the most peculiar stars known!

During Don's last trip with us, he documented his time on board this Russian and Norwegian Arctic rail adventure, in search of the Aurora Borealis. To read his article in full, click here; http://www.goldeneagleluxurytrains.com/luxury-travel-blog/aurora-borealis-explained/

If you would like to join this special New Year departure, we still have a couple of cabins remaining. Please contact us for details.
