Golden Eagle 2025 FAM Trip: A Showcase of Exceptional Service and Timeless Elegance

Last week, Golden Eagle Luxury Trains proudly hosted its first-ever familiarisation (FAM) trip, an exclusive journey from Istanbul to Budapest aboard the Golden Eagle Danube Express.

Designed to give our travel partners first-hand experience of luxury rail travel in Europe, the three-day itinerary offered a rich blend of cultural exploration, culinary excellence, and the signature hospitality for which Golden Eagle is renowned.

Day One: A Grand Departure from Istanbul

The journey began in the heart of Istanbul, with welcome drinks at the a top the roof top bar of the Four Seasons Hotel Sultanahmet with a formal introduction by Natasha Baker; Managing Director and Tim Littler; Owner and Founder. Amid the city’s historic skyline, guests connected with fellow travel professionals and the Golden Eagle team, setting the tone for an inspiring experience ahead.

From there, luggage was seamlessly handled and transferred ahead into their cabins onboard the gleaming Golden Eagle Danube Express at Halkali Station. Each guest received a handwritten ticket, presented in a beautifully tied envelope — a thoughtful gesture reflecting the brand’s commitment to personal service and attention to detail.

Onboard, guests were welcomed by James Masterson, Product Development Director, during a drinks reception in the bar carriage, followed by an exquisite Black & Gold Gala Dinner — an eight-course fine dining experience designed and prepared by Michelin Guide chef Joseph Rawlins. The evening provided the perfect introduction to luxury train travel through Eastern Europe, combining elegance, comfort, and camaraderie.

Day Two: Insights, Indulgence, and Transylvanian Grandeur

The second day began with a leisurely breakfast as the Danube Express travelled through scenic landscapes, during which guests where offered the choice of dinning in their private cabins on in either of the restaurant carriages. Morning Educational sessions offered valuable insights into Golden Eagle’s product portfolio, upcoming rail tours across Europe and Asia and opportunities for one-to-one engagement between agents and the company’s leadership team.

After a gourmet lunch, guests took part in a Confectionery Masterclass led by Head Pastry Chef Rebeka Krupa, offering a behind-the-scenes look at the culinary craftsmanship that defines every journey. True skill was showcased as guests attempted to master the artistry of presentation onboard a moving train.

By late afternoon, the train arrived in Brasov, Romania, where guests were transferred to the iconic Bran Castle for a private tour and Gala Dinner. Rich in history and and illuminated by folklore, the atmospheric medieval castle was a beguiling setting perfect of the Halloween season.

Throughout the day, guests remarked on the high standard of care and professionalism from the onboard team, describing the experience as both luxurious and deeply personal.

Day Three: Culture, Connection, and Conclusion in Budapest

The final day showcased the warmth and vibrancy of Hungarian culture. Upon arrival in Kecskemét, guests enjoyed a morning of performances, traditional Lángos, apricot wine tasting, and a Hungarian horse show, followed by a scenic horse-and-cart ride to Lajos-Tanya Station.

A final lunch onboard the Golden Eagle Danube Express allowed time to reflect on the journey, and enjoy the tranquillity of luxury rail travel. As the train arrived into Budapest-Nyugati Station, guests were welcomed by a 15 piece brass and shown to the Royal Waiting room.  Heartfelt goodbyes were exchanged, further cementing the lasting sense of belonging Golden Eagle has built with its trade partners.
