With great sadness we share the news that Major Gordon Corrigan MBE, one of our most cherished guest speakers, has passed away. Gordon was deeply respected and loved by passengers and staff alike, and his presence on board significantly enriched our journeys over more than 13 years.
Gordon brought an extraordinary breadth of knowledge to every tour. A distinguished military historian and former Royal Gurkha Rifles officer, he was the author of many acclaimed books and a familiar voice on television and in lecture halls. On our rail journeys – from the Eastern Europe Discovery to the Republics of the Silk Road and beyond – his lectures spanned subjects from medieval warfare and the Hundred Years War to pivotal events in modern history and thought-provoking analyses of pivotal battles and geopolitical shifts.
Our guests often spoke of the value he added to their travel experience:
“Talks by Gordon were very much appreciated.”
Many described his contributions as highlights of their trip:
“Highlight of the trip – Major Gordon Corrigan.”
“I really thought Gordon was a major highlight – both his lectures and talking with him informally.”
Whether in formal presentations or casual conversations over dinner, Gordon had an exceptional ability to connect with people and make history come alive. He captivated audiences, sparked curiosity, and broadened horizons – helping make each journey not just a tour, but a deeper exploration of the world and its past.
He will be profoundly missed by all of us – and remembered with immense gratitude for the insight, warmth, and passion he shared so generously.
