On May 25th, Golden Eagle's Founder and President, Tim Littler celebrates 20 years of operating tours along the Trans-Siberian Railway.
On this day in 1996, Tim ran his first private tour on the Trans-Siberian railway, departing from Berlin and ending in Vladivostok. The adjacent image was taken that very day at Berlin's Hauptbahnhof.
Tim said of the inaugural run: “Our first ever trip along the Trans-Siberian route in 1996 was also a mammoth record-breaking event as it took us 28 days with 72 different steam locomotives to travel 13,000kms from Berlin to Vladivostok. A massive undertaking and a logistical nightmare when I look back now and despite this we were still only 10 minutes late arriving into Vladivostok!” The tour was a success and we have continued to operate tours along what is undoubtedly the world's greatest railway ever since. Our June 2016 departure will be our 200th on the Trans-Siberian railway.
Below is a video illustrating the history of Golden Eagle Luxury Trains, spanning half a century and including footage from the inaugural Trans-Siberian departure:
